Tonbridge Today is an independent news and information site for Tonbridge and the borough of Tonbridge and Malling. We take our facts from public records, we link to them, and we are not connected to the council.

Two halves of one borough

Tonbridge is the largest town, in the south of the borough on the Medway, with Hildenborough, Hadlow, East Peckham and Leigh around it. The Malling half is in the north and looks towards Maidstone and the M20: West and East Malling, Kings Hill, Larkfield, Leybourne, Ditton, Snodland, Aylesford, Borough Green and Wrotham. The council’s offices are at Kings Hill rather than in Tonbridge, which surprises people. We cover both halves and we name the actual town in every story.

What we report

Planning applications and decisions from Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council, its committee papers and budgets, licensing notices, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, Environment Agency flood warnings for the Medway and the Bourne, and company filings in The Gazette. Kent County Council runs roads, schools and social care, so when a decision is theirs we say so. Flooding is a standing local subject here and we report the official warnings rather than the rumours.

The 2028 reorganisation

Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council is due to be abolished in April 2028 and replaced by a new West Kent unitary authority covering this borough together with Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells. That will change who is responsible for bins, planning and council tax here. We will report each stage from the published documents, and we will keep the practical pages pointing at whoever actually answers on the day you read them.

Tips and corrections
